Wednesday 24 Dec 2008 - Chillin wit my Homies in NYC

So, I am in New York City chillin wit my peoples and it feels great. Honestly, it feels like I never left. Almost like I was gone for a very long weekend. We have been eating, drinking and just having a merry ole time. A couple things happened while I was here in NYC which sort of threw me off for a bit. But, GOD is good and I am not going to let a few events spoil my joy. I just wanted to check in very quickly and wish everyone a merry christmas.

17 December 2008 - I am Finally Sorted!!

So my broadband router finally came yesterday. I finally have internet!! Yay me. Now that my internet is up and running, I begin my World Tour. Seriously, next year I want to start travelling around Europe. So Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Prague, and Milan here I come.

I am also very excited because I leave for NYC in two days!! I can not wait to get home to see my peoples. It's funny London is pretty dead around Christmas. Because the weather is so bloody dreary here in December, most folk try to leave the city. Despite the credit crunch, it seems like many people are still getting away from London.

Talk to ya'll soon

16 December 2008 - Random Thought

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love my name. Forgive me for being vain, but I think my name suits me. I am named after Jomo Kenyatta, the elder statesman of Kenya. Common folklore says that Kenyatta means the Star or Light of Kenya, how cool is that! Ironically, Jomo Kenyatta received a great deal of education here in London. Very similar to Nelson Mandela, Jomo Kenyatta was wrongfully imprisioned for 7 years. He was later freed when it was discovered that he had no links to the Mau Mau Rebellion (insurgence by Kenyan people against British rule). Eventually, Jomo Kenyatta became the first Prime Minister (1963-64) and President (1964-78) of Kenya. Jomo Kenyatta is regarded as one of the greatest men of the 20th century. The airport in Nairobi is name in his honor and Kenya observes a holiday in his remembrance.

Anyways, sometimes when I am bored, I will do some reading about Jomo Kenyatta. I was online reading and the first thing to pop up was this quote from from Jomo Kenyatta which read, "I have no intention or retaliating or looking backwards. We are going to forget the past and look forward to the future". This sort of floored me because this quote is very much related to my current situation - getting out of the past and moving forth into the future. Read my prior blog for more details. Anyways, just wanted to share that random thought.

16 December 2008 - Home for the Holidays

It just dawned on me that I will be leaving in 4 days to head back to the NYC for the holidays. I must admit, I really need this time away from London. Don't get me wrong, London is fantastic. But, like Dorothy in The Wiz (you know the one with Diana and Michael) - "There's No Place Like Home". NYC is home for me, that is the place where I have cultivated my deepest and most intimate relationships. So, it will definitely be good to get back to the familiarity of family and friends in NYC. I am so looking forward to it!! Though, I must admit that I do have a bit of trepidation regarding this trip to NYC. In the two months that I have been gone, so much has changed. On a larger level, the economy experienced one of the worst downturns in history and the impact of recession/credit crunch must be taking its toll on the pysche and morale of so many people. I guess the true spirit of Christmas is where we should focus our energies not on the consumerism aspects. It's times like these which make that so abundantly clear. Also, on a more personal note, a lot has changed within the context of my intimate circle of friends. There have been some seismic shifts in personal relationships which may make it a bit different or even akward in certain situations. However, the only constant in life is change. So, I must accept change and move forward. The past is a great place to visit on occassion as it provides a great context from whence we have all come. It deepens our appreciation of what we have. But, most important, the past should help to remind us of the promise and hope of things to come. So, the past is not a crutch and should not cripple us, but rather it should help to catapult us into the glory of our futures. Sorry if that sounded very preachy, but this is a lesson which I am currently learning. I can not take back the past. What I can do, is to learn from it and incorporate those lessons into my glorious future. I know, such a simple lesson, but hard to really implement at times.

On a lighter note, I can not wait to pig out and eat till I bust. Good and reasonably priced food in London, can be a challenge. Also, I can not wait to shop (not that I wasn't doing that in London). Now, I can shop without converting to U.S. dollar. Thankfully the U.S. Dollar is doing a lot better these days compare to the British Pound. But mostly, I can not wait to be surrounded by the love of my family and friends. I miss them all terribly and can not wait to be able to hug and kiss each one of them.

I still do not have internet. Long story. However, I bid everyone adieu until my next blog entry. Happy Holidays and keep focused on the true reason for the season.
