16 December 2008 - Random Thought

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love my name. Forgive me for being vain, but I think my name suits me. I am named after Jomo Kenyatta, the elder statesman of Kenya. Common folklore says that Kenyatta means the Star or Light of Kenya, how cool is that! Ironically, Jomo Kenyatta received a great deal of education here in London. Very similar to Nelson Mandela, Jomo Kenyatta was wrongfully imprisioned for 7 years. He was later freed when it was discovered that he had no links to the Mau Mau Rebellion (insurgence by Kenyan people against British rule). Eventually, Jomo Kenyatta became the first Prime Minister (1963-64) and President (1964-78) of Kenya. Jomo Kenyatta is regarded as one of the greatest men of the 20th century. The airport in Nairobi is name in his honor and Kenya observes a holiday in his remembrance.

Anyways, sometimes when I am bored, I will do some reading about Jomo Kenyatta. I was online reading and the first thing to pop up was this quote from from Jomo Kenyatta which read, "I have no intention or retaliating or looking backwards. We are going to forget the past and look forward to the future". This sort of floored me because this quote is very much related to my current situation - getting out of the past and moving forth into the future. Read my prior blog for more details. Anyways, just wanted to share that random thought.
